It’s called an App password, even though I wouldn’t really call WLM an ‘App’. Here’s where Google tells you how to create an App password. Unsure whether this made any difference though!īTW, the same 16-character password worked for both WLM and my Netvibes widget (which shows a list of uncollected emails) and links to my Gmail account if I want to access it that way. You have to create an App Password, which you then copy and use to overwrite your existing password in the WLM Gmail account(s) that you have set up in WLM - or probably any other email client that tries to access your Gmail account.Īt the same time, on Google’s urging, I also switched to 2-step verification on my Android phone, with lock-screen on. It took a little while to find, but the solution is simple. The same thing happened to a POP3 widget connecting my Gmail account on my NetVibes page. It went round in a circle saying that my password was invalid (don’t try and reset it, it won’t make any difference). I had the same issue, and waited until Google prevented Windows Live Mail (WLM) from accessing my gmail account, which happened on June 8th 2022.
